Fall 2010 Accessories Trend Alert: Glitter, Metallics and a Hint of That Inter-Galactic

We know that metallics are a fall must but let’s give it an inter-galactic touch and there you have it, a glorious Fall trend.

When seeking to achieve this trend aim for deep hued accessories with a hint of glitter and some metallic finish and accent.

Trend Watch: Muted Metallics

For spring/summer and beyond Fashion156 forecasts a move towards muted metallics to achieve understated shine. Rusted coppers, mottled mercury and tarnished brass make up the muted tonal base for the trend, which focuses on a more subdued version of last seasons high-shine metallics. Viktor and Rolf launched their Pre Fall ’10 collection with a hint of lilac shimmer for the perfect transitional shine along with Lanvin who opted for muted silver.

Be inspired because this is a trend that will not be a fad.

Lohan’s One Thousand Dollar Clothing Line

An LA Times reporter swung by Lindsay Lohan’s 6126 showroom recently and found a lot more than leggings. And it turns out the tabloid fixture isn’t just debuting handbags in the very near future. A full clothing line (of which images first dropped in December and) which includes a whopping 280 looks, will hit stores including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Ron Herman come July. So, what to expect? Minidresses in embossed crocodile leather, loads of leather, and Lohan’s staple hoodies covered in lace or sequins. Oh, and lots and lots of leggings.

Prices will reportedly range from $60 to a staggering $1000. Lohan too acts as the face of the line: she models sequined jumpers and more in 6126’s FW10 look book. The best news is that fire crotch is not included (low and cheesy but we had to).

From Runway to Retail: Models Turn Designers

WWD — When it comes to perking up fashion and accessories businesses, models are increasingly becoming go-to designers.

Brands say it’s an image-boosting and lucrative win-win for both parties. For example Kate Moss for Longchamp handbag line’s sales at the French firm’s own stores spiked 25 percent, even though the product entered stores midmonth.

Models interviewed by WWD said they see designing as a natural next step forward and prime opportunity to take advantage of what they’re exposed to during their careers. Compared with a young designer, what they have at their fingertips in terms of contacts, resources, support and exposure is dazzling.

H&M Fashion Against AIDS 2010 Collection

H&M is taking it’s Fashion Against AIDS (FAA) collection to more fashion pieces rather than have celebrities endorse in T-shirt designs this year. H&M will launch its third Fashion Against AIDS campaign with inspiration from music festivals. 25% of sales will be donated to youth HIV/AIDS awareness projects.

Love the items, especially those sandals and the prices we know will be just right!

Bag Designers Fuse Fashion AND Value

A crop of handbag lines are carving out their own niche in the accessories market, and they’re neither high luxury nor youthful and trendy. Priced mainly between $600 and $1,200, these lines — Katherine Kwei, Alexander Wang and Gryson among them — have often been grouped among their lower-priced contemporary counterparts. But with luxe materials and fashion-forward styles, they have defined themselves as an emerging category and an alternative to pricier designer bags.
